Here’s a Social media and small businesses statistics infographic I stumbled across on the plane yesterday, thought it might be useful for you. I’ve extracted the text and put them below also.

Which social network is used most?

  • 88% – Facebook
  • 67% – Twitter
  • 44.6% – LinkedIn
  • 34.8% – Pinterest
  • 30.6% – Google+

Small businesses are spending smarter. We’re becoming more efficient with our social media marketing budgets.

In 2012:

  • 50.1% – Neutral Spending
  • 6% – Spending Less
  • 22.1% – More
  • 21.8% – Other

In 2013:

  • 42% – Neutral Spending
  • 13% – Spending Less
  • 26% – More
  • 19% – Other

How much time is being spent on social media?

  • 60.7% – Respondents spend less than 6 hours a week
  • 23.4% – 6 to 10 hours
  • 9.5% – 11 to 20 hours
  • 6.4% – 21 hours +

  • More than 50% of respondents have a company blog
  • 30.8% – Respondents post 3 times or less per month
  • 19.1% – Respondents post once a day to once a week
  • 2% – Respondents post several times a day

Third party tools are being used to manage social media.

  • 55.9% of respondents use a third party tool to manage their social media activities
  • 39.5% of respondents pay for a third party tool to manage social media

How much do respondents pay for third party social media tools per month?

  • 11.7% – $10 or less
  • 13.6% – $11 to $50
  • 5.5% – $51 to $100
  • 5.5% – $101 to $250
  • 3.2% – $251 or more

Videos and reviews are being embraced.

  • 35.2% of respondents are using YouTube as part of their social media activities.
  • 12.4% of respondents are using Yelp as part of their social media activities.

Results are based on an online survey of 402 businesses (93 percent with 100 or less employees). The survey was conducted between Oct. 25, 2013 and Dec. 13, 2013.
